Dr. Heger Gras im Ofen Weissburgunder GG 2017

Grass in the oven is a special location in Ihringer Winklerberg. A south, southwest exposure, however, it lies around the mountain and therefore has significantly more shade. And above is the forest. That means the cool air sinks and makes the location the coolest on the Ihringer Winklerberg. The location consists of volcanic soils with limestone inclusions. The vines were all planted in 1984. Christophe Tyrell vn Eitelsbach's brother, Marcell Tyrell, planted the wines at Heger. Especially in 2017 is a year that was so incredibly successful because of its freshness in Baden. An early shoot, in the spring there was a lot of wetness and a subsequent extremely long growing season of well over 100 days, then a late harvest at cooler temperatures, which preserved a lot of aroma. 2017 is one of the best years in Baden in the white wine sector. For a Pinot Blanc incredibly gathered, concentrated, but nothing made up, bright flowers and jasmine, also a little tea, quince, a little lemongrass. Very well structured, with great straight running. Ripe white pear, white peach, nice melting, incredible draw in the mouth, the wine has more pressure, more tension than the wonderful 2016 of last year. The wine is so long, the eyes contract, lemongrass, reindeer loden, mirabelle, together with yellow and green pears, no Weißburgunder kitsch at all, but structured straight, Burgundian, almost a touch of Meursault. The wine reminds me a little of Roulot, even though it is a Pinot Blanc. It has length and size and a very nice, extensive salty minerality. It is also clear to me that the largest Chardonnays in the world are always larger than the largest Pinot Blanc, but in the context of Pinot Blanc it belongs in the very first row.
