Des Ardoisieres Quartz 2017
We have alpine viticulture here, very steep, all pure terrace locations. Extreme manual work in biodynamic management, high stock densities and minimal yields. The quartz is pure with 100% Altesse, an indigenous grape variety from the Savoy. It occurs only here and in a tiny area in Switzerland. The quartz comes from a south-southeast exposed, barren steep slope with a 60% slope and an extremely low yield of 20 hl / ha. A short cold maceration is followed by spontaneous fermentation and aging for 18 months in used barriques. Tonic freshness on the nose, extremely elegant and delicate. The fruit is not the focus here. Rather light stoniness and yeast spices. The most voluminous Ardoisières wine on the nose. As always, the fruit alternates between yellow and very light green, because due to the alpine situation and under normal conditions, fully or overripe grapes are never harvested. We are significantly higher and more extreme in viticulture than in the Jura. A little green pear, white peach, subtle hints of citrus. Everything well structured with a firm yeast backbone and crystal clear like a mountain stream that flows through a meadow with wild herbs. An incredible depth is stretched out in the nose and yet everything remains subtle, fine and reserved - this is not a loud wine, very subtle and rich in finesse. The quartz also has the richest enamel of all Ardoisières wines on the palate. Firmly structured and almost creamy in its yeasty character, which is crisscrossed by a racy, cool citrus freshness with lemon balm, quince and green pear. The entire mouth is lined cool. The quartz balances between this classy freshness and the fine yeast melt, plus the crunchy citrus fruit with meadow herbs - all with a mountain source-like clarity. A fascinating wine that is actually comparable in its kind to anything, you have to have tried it yourself.
